Yes this deserves a whole seperate blog section. I watch a lot, I read a lot & I like to speak a lot. Especially when offered an endless void. I won't start with anything too analytical yet but a friend had expressed that she would like to see me write. I think this is a good way of warming up to that.
I also really miss those social media Twitter threads where people would yap about every movie, game, etc they had finished. I used to be massive on partaking in that trend. So I will treat this similar.
I started playing Cyberpunk 2077 recently & became absolutely enamoured with the genre. Which immediately lead me to going out of way to look for the classics. To see where it began & what made it. Which immediately brought me onto the fiction novel "Neuromancer" by William Gibson. Damn it's good! The story follows Case an interface Cowboy who crosses the path of the wrong people. It forces him into jobs he would rather stay away from.
That doesn't really sell the fiction, but I find it shouldn't be described as more. It is esoteric, batshit, heavy sci-fi that invented the term the Matrix. It also has some of the funniest 80s "Weebanese" imaginable. There is a very clear indicator that the americans behind Cyberpunk got introduced to Akira & it became their entire personality thereafter. Nonetheless. It is excellently done and should be read.
I also found it surprisingly nauseatingly critical of our current AI situation, which is crazy for a title from 1984.
I am very fond of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Wait... What do you mean they’re in a show together? It’s critical and intelligent? Filled with soap opera twists & drama? Sign me up! What!
After watching Mad Men last year I was really missing a show that felt like this. I feel there are a lot of parallels between the two & it really fills that hole. It genuinely managed to get me & my fiancee on the edge of our seats too. Which isn’t easy.
One major thing that I appreciate about the Morning Show is that it never assumes you're stupid, it never undermines your intelligence. You're given these intense drama plotlines while still maintaining legitimate political commentary on our current world situations.
How do you mix the horrors of our political climate with romance subplots? I have no clue, but Morning Show makes it possible.
I think that's what makes it so comparable to Mad Men. It does so similarly. It has plotlines filled with 1950s business endeavors but inbetween that you also have love affairs and genuine drama. Not to mention the really smart character writing. It's like soap opera but for smart people...
That is officially one of the most insane things I have ever said. Whatever. humans love and crave drama. Let me have my guilty pleasures.
Vince Gilligan is back! I missed his writing so much. And wow what a strong start. I am currently on episode 4, it is my weekly joy, what I look forward to the most. That guy writes the most complex & robust characters. Now he's writing a lesbian lead. Holy shit.
I think thats all for this time. Next time I write one of these it will be more concise. This is all from the top of my head. Lol.
